The 2010 Welch Award in Chemistry honors JoAnne Stubbe and Christopher T. Walsh for their insights into the chemistry of enzymes in biological systems..

Dr. Stubbe, the Novartis Professor of Chemistry and Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Dr. Walsh, Hamilton Kuhn Professor at Harvard Medical School, have helped explain how enzymes have evolved to carry out difficult and ingenious chemistry essential to life.  Both enzymologists share an interest in rational drug design and how their work to develop a greater understanding of the chemical mechanisms of enzymes can ultimately aid in the creation of better therapeutics to treat disease.
