The purpose of an endowed chair is to provide a faculty position for an eminent scientist, thus further increasing the basic scientific research in chemistry and other sciences in Texas.

To be considered for an endowed chair, a Texas educational institution must have a Ph.D. program in chemistry.  Historically, the institution must be willing to match the endowment funds dollar for dollar.

The Welch Foundation accepts grant requests throughout the grant year and the Foundation has no required application form for an endowed chair proposal.
